The R.M.s.s.City of
New Yorkarrived in harbour soon after six o'clock
yesterday morning from Sydney en route for San Fancisco.
Upon the present occasion the steamer comes into
port in a most cleanly order and being liberally
patronised with passengers, her decks presented
quite an animated scene as she came alongside the
wharf. Shortly after she had safely moored the passengers
proceeded ashore and were quickly dispersed throughout
the city, evidently bent on seeing as much as possible
during the limited time at their disposal. |
|
Captain COBB reports on
the passage across as follows:
Sailed from Sydney, August 9th, at 3.50 p.m.; passed
North Cape on the 13th at 2 p.m. and received Auckland
pilot on board on the following morning at 5.20
o'clock. On the passage across experienced fresh
north-easterly winds and pleasant weather.
We have to thank Mr R T PLATT, the Purser, for
the prompt delivery of our files and for other
favours. Shortly after three o'clock the 'City'resumed
her voyage for San francisco, there being at the
time a large crowd on the wharf to witness her
departure.
