sent by Colin GRAY, of the Third Creek Public School,

Public
Schools for Crookwell Dist. N.S.W
The
original Crookwell Public School opened in 1876. In 1892,
the Crookwell Public School was increased to accommodate
up to 60 pupils. The School was closed whilst the work was
done. In 1897, another new class room was built, there were
216 on the School Roll, with an average attendance of 166.
NOTE:
My Ex. Convict GRAY Ancestor's, George GRAY, his wife Mary
-nee CONNOR along with their two small children settled
on property at Middle Creek. Pejar, late 1832. Some of their
descendant's are still in the district today, 2001.

School's in the Pejar/ Crookwell District. N.S.W.
Full
time School opened @ Cotta Walla in 1876, and closed down
1884.
Half time School opened @ Pejar, May 1912, till July 1921.
Full time School opened @ Pejar, July 1921, and the School
finally closed down in February 1930.
The
"Third Creek Public School" which was about one
mile down the Pejar/Crookwell Road from my GRAY Ancestor's
'Cotton Valley' property at Middle Creek. N.S.W. Half time
School opened @ Third Creek, July 1869, till December 1870.
The Third Creek School remaimed closed from Dec. 1870, and
reopened as a Full time School in May 1878. The Third Creek
School finally closed down in Dec. 1941, over the years
with a total of 14 Teachers, one at a time taught at the
School. ( My Dad, one of the pupils.)
The
1869, original 'Third Creek School', being a lean-two building
with a floor area of 23 feet by 14 feet, with 7 feet high
walls, built of wooden "Slabs -- Slats". A letter
to the Department of Public School's, regards the Third
Creek School, requesting erection of a New School Room in
December 1899. The writer of the letter was a Mr. William
LEARY Senior.
In 1900,
the original 1869 Third Creek School was replaced by a School
building at the same site, -- built by Contractor Arthur
ALLEN from Goulburn. Amount of Contract was "One Hundred
and Forty-seven Pounds. 10s. 6d." payed for on the
November 14th. 1900. The new one classroom school of weather
boards, iron roof, had a floor area of 30 feet, by 16 feet,
an open fire place with a brick chimney. The Teacher at
the time at Third Creek School, was Frederick DUNN. Period
of Appointment was from Oct. 1897, till April 1903.
NOTE:
My Dad, Christie ( C.J.D.) GRAY, b: 24/12/1881 @ Cotta Walla,
went to the Third Creek School from December 1887, until
Dec. 1894. My Dad came out to New Zealand in 1904, Dad was
64 yrs. old when I was born in 1944 @ Feilding. N.Z. My
old Dad d: 17/5/1965. @ Feilding. N.Z.
The
June 13th. 1888 list of pupils at the Third Creek School
was a list that Dr. FITZPATRICK, the Government Medical
Officer at Crookwell had sent to the Education Department
of School's, that Dr FITZPATRICK had closed down the School
for three weeks as a result of a "Diphtheria Epidemic"
at the time. I hope the above History may be of some help
to someone.
